Community Day

The Community project is aimed at a disadvantaged community of Russian speakers who arrived from countries of the former Soviet Union and now live in Westminster and Greater London. These people experience problems of integrating in their new English environment. Most of them have don't have fluency in English language, feel isolated and don't have support in sharing their family problems.
Community Day is a monthly focus event for Russian Community gatherings which includes:

  • Info, support, advice to our members in partnership with legal services, job centre, health representatives, working as volunteers.
  • Films and slides shows as multicultural integration

Through running our regular Community Programmes we provide films which educate people on how to live in Britain and provide power-point training courses on positive thinking and assertiveness. It also gives us an opportunity to show Russian films to keep in touch with Russian heritage and tradition for refugee families, teenages and young children.

Self Help group for sharing ideas and communication

The Russian Community Association works in conjunction with Russian-speaking psychologists, doctors and complementary therapy providers to integrate the approach to health of British conventional medicine and our community background health approaches. It helps our community's members deal with anxiety, stressful situations and emotional problems such as coping with a new life in a new country, and dealing with isolation, that could lead to depression. Our Russian, Northern and Eastern ethnic traditional approaches are part of a community's resources and very advanced in complementary health methods that can alleviate these problems. The project is going to run as a series of workshops/lectures on how the British care system works; self-help health guidance; health for women; babies and children; stopping smoking; understanding depression; links to ethnic traditional methods.
